Day 5: Create a Vision
Family traditions and vivid holiday memories are sacred. Think of the ones you treasure most from your childhood. What do you imagine for the family you are raising? What can you do together this year to remember exactly who your children are at this precious and fleeting age?
As mentioned on Day 3: Get Outside, spend these early days of the season focusing yourself mentally, emotionally, and spiritually on removing blocks between you and what is most important to you. Refuse to allow fear, worry, or anger to take you out of the moment and rob you of your happiness. This is an exercise that applies to any given day, season, year, and in the scope of a lifetime.
Your ability to imagine your vision for the life you want to create for your family is powerful. Here are some quotes to inspire your reflection:
“Don’t let anyone rob you of your imagination, your creativity, or curiosity. It’s your place in the world; it’s your life. Go on and do all you can with it, and make it the life you want to live.” ~Mae C. Jemison, first African American woman to become a U.S. astronaut
“Happiness is not a matter of intensity, but of balance, order, rhythm, and harmony.” ~Thomas Merton
“How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives.” ~Annie Dillard, writer
“Change your thoughts and you change your world.” ~Norman Vincent Peale, author of The Power of Positive Thinking
“Why is it that some people seem to have peace of mind every day?” ~from an Elder’s Meditation
“When you realize there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you.” ~Lao Tzu, philosopher of ancient China
